The year is 1978, and you have a choice of some dependable Eastern European wheels to get you moving.

DD, Track & Burn. Go!

Kinja'd!!!

The Škoda Estelle 120 LS, 49BHP 1.2 I4.

Kinja'd!!!

The Dacia 1300, 54BHP 1.3 I4.

Kinja'd!!!

The FSO Polonez 1500, 75BHP 1.5 I4.

The Czech Škoda has a rear-engined air-cooled layout, the Romanian Dacia has Renault parts and the Polish FSO has the most powerful engine here. Either way, these should get you from A to B most of the time, you choose.

DD that Škoda, as it is the most awesome.

Track (Rally) the FSO because POWER and it looks kinda like a Delta if you squint

Burn the Dacia that can’t decide on a cohesive styling language.

Funnily enough, both were designed by Giugiaro - so you are somewhat correct.

Burn them all, DD the most salvageable one, stuff a SBC in the second-best salvageable one and track it.

DD: Walk because I’m American and would no be caught dead in any of those

Track: A SEAT 133 because it would be preferred

Burn: All of those. Preferably in a big-ass pile for all to see.

Burning of Škodas is unacceptable, they are both race cars and red, white, and blue!

I bet that one would burn even harder.

To be honest, there’s not much there to burn, it’d be over pretty fast.

You could put a supercharged Toronado engine and drivetrain into a Skoda without burning it first. One Finnish nut did this one. And no, it wasn’t street legal.

DD the Dacia. Old Renault mechanicals should mean it’s as reliable as the sun, and I kind of like the endearingly odd looks of the Renault 12.

Track the Skoda, if it’s a dirt track that is. The 120s had a great reputation in rallying and with a bit of work any old Estelle could be made great for dirt I would expect.

Burn the FSO. They weren’t terribly well made to begin with and I’m afraid the Fiat mechanicals won’t have aged well. It’s unreliable for the same reason the Lada is, and I don’t feel like having to deal with fixing what never ran well to begin with.

Figures, the Lada Riva is based on a Fiat as well after all.

Old Renault mechanicals should mean it’s as reliable as the sun

They are though? I’ve heard many horror stories about old Renault mechanicals, but I guess they were pretty simple cars.

Otherwise, the sun may burn out any second now.

I guess they’re mainly reliable, but when they go out, they go out with a bang! ;)

So technically, 1970s Renaults have similar reliability problems to 1990s Mercedes-Benzes.

The more you know~
